Effect of Audiovisual Asynchrony on Speech Understanding in Noise

If the sound and image from a single audio-visual event are received asynchronously, there is a temporal window during which the auditory and visual stimuli are perceived as being synchronous. However, when stimuli are further apart, they are perceived as being separate, and the effect of such asynchrony on speech perception is not well studied. We are interested in identifying limitations on audio-visual speech processing (that can affect how much a presented audio signal lags the video signal) before it starts adversely affecting speech reception.
